PSP + BitTorrent = A Match Made in Heaven
OK, I got sidetracked with the Wipeout browser thing and playing too much Lumines, but I need to focus on the reason I bought the PSP in the first place, that is, watching tv shows on my hour-long commute. I have the feeling I'm going to be watching a lot more recorded tv on this device than I'll be playing games.
The first tv show I'm interested in is the new Battlestar Galactica since my damn cable station doesn't carry the Sci-fi channel. I also want to carry around the previous night's Daily Show since that's an easy show to watch in really small chunks like waiting in a post office line.
The process is a piece of cake if you're thinking of buying one. Something even my parents could do. Kudos to the people who coded this, it's a great user experience. There's a bunch of ways to do it, but here are the steps I would give my parents:
- Download and install a BitTorrent client. Something like Azureus.
- Download and install PSP Video 9 at http://www.pspvideo9.com/.
- Search for your show at http://www.tvtorrents.com/ or http://www.tvtorrents.ws/ and download it with your BitTorrent client.
- Run PSP Video 9 to convert it into .mp4 format for the PSP. (I actually tried Rapiz first, but kept getting errors). I'm happy with PSP Video 9, it has a really clean UI and quality conversion. You can also copy it to your PSP directly from this app, which is nice, too.
- That's it. You're done.
I was pretty surprised how smooth the process was and how many options are available already for doing this on the PSP. The only improvement I'd like to see is some sort of automated/tivo-like feature so I can subscribe to a show and automatically download it and convert it without my interaction.
