Cool phone? Maybe not.
It feels like I see dozens of new phone announcements every day through various rss feeds that I've subscribed to. I'm not sure why I even bother looking over some of these feeds anymore, they've just become channels for companies to deliver press releases. I tune out most phone announcements now since I'm not that impressed a NEW x.x megapixel camera or new color schemes.
But this morning I saw an blurb at Daily Wireless that got me excited: Siemens and Wherify are releasing a GPS phone that's going to be available at Walmart
It's the size of a business card and it's got GPS! And, despite all the questionable Walmart business practices, the idea of this phone in the hands of lots of users sounds great.
One problem. I don't think it's a phone. It's got two-way walkie-talkie functionality, concierge service, and 911 capability, but it's not a real phone. [sigh] So I assumed the lotus position and pondered what it means to be a phone, as well as if I drop my phone in the forest and there is nobody to hear it, is anyone annoyed by my ringtone?
Aargh! That's what I get for getting excited over a product announcement! Back to jaded cynicism for me.
